I want to get a new camera - I want a point and shoot/compact and want to spend up to £200 - any recommendations or good deals?

I broke my camera in Paris last week, so just bought a new one - did my research and really wanted the Nikon s9100 - they have introduced the new s9300, so the older s9100 is going for a good price - http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod2189.html
As I couldn't get one in the colour and price target, in the end I bought the Panasonic Lumix tz18 - available at electrical123 for about £145 inc postage or here http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod2079.html
So many to choose from, a bit of a maze, hopefully my research has paid off. No doubt others will give you their opinions too. Good luck0 -
The Fuji Natura Classica IMAO.
But they have the Fuji T200 for £70 in ASDA, I'm hoping to get that soon.0 -
As a matter of interest (because I'm looking at buying a Panasonic TZ sometime soon), will the TZ18 accept aftermarket spare batteries?
TBH, I don't know, I believe it does from looking up on ebay. Wasn't a major concern as the battery on my old Exilim was not replaced in 6 years (may live to regret it possibly!)0 -

Well. I bought a TZ8 (and thus returned it//another story) and when I bought that I bought a matching cheap battery off ebay. I then bought the TZ18, and have used the TZ8 battery in it (it seems to match battery wise) Though as yet, I haven't charged it, because it was pre-charged)
I would advise against going market place for it new. There are stories about banks not refunding in cases like that because they consider it 4 way transactions. Amazon themselves are selling it at £150.20, and I would recommend spending the extra for that one.
Jessops are selling both the TZ18 and the TZ20 ~£169. I avoided the TZ20 specifically because I really can't be fussed with the 3D shooting, aside which you need a particular TV to view it on. If it ever gets to be the done thing in the future, 3D cameras will be so much better, and more practical with other technology to go with it, that it's a really novelty addition to the TZ20. Take out that, and I found the TZ18 easier button wise.0 -
I was about to post in favour of the Panasonic TZ series camera's
I was lucky enough to win one a couple of years back (I was looking at buying one when I got the good news:)), and it's the best digital camera I've had, and to say I'm happy with the pictures is generally an understatement (the fact it was a prize only makes it better:p).
IIRC they have some sort of chip in the batteries that means that when it was first turned on in the cameras firmware you couldn't use third party batteries, but I've been using a third party battery with mine (mainly as a spare) for a year or so without any issues
Possibly one of the nicest things about them, is that you can have them as fully auto cameras, but also take some manual control easily if you want.0 -
Depends if you want new or used. I'm looking at a newer compact and got a shortlist of some of the best reviews.
Panasonic LX5 24-90mm eq, around £180 used, larger sensor than compact
Olympus XZ1, 28-112mm eq, around £180 used, larger sensor than compact
Panasonic TZ20, 24-384mm, around £130, good zoom range compact
Nikon P7000, 28-200mm £150 compact
Panasonic GF3 - some HUKD deal can take it from £200 down to £150 if youre quick
Panasonic TZ8 25-300mm around £900
