2nd generation Ipod touch

Hi there

Hope this is the right place
My two girls birthdays are in May and both have asked for an Ipod touch!!
There are both under 10 so I'm not worried about them having the latest one (plus I couldn't afford it lol)
Have found reasonably priced refurbished 2nd generation ones, just (may be a silly question!) will they still be able to use all the apps available on an older version Ipod? They really want to be able to play Draw Something or whatever its called :o lol

(if its relevant it says iOS 4.2.1??)

TIA

They eventually wont be able to upgrade as each iOS comes out, as they're reasonably older models. (and apple will stop supporting updates on the iOS, but as long as they work, and assuming the apps they use don't over upgrade past their iOS, that isn't a major issue) They may find some apps wont work but it'll not be that many if there are some. Most are backwards compatible by quite a fair iOS, and as below with Draw something, it's quite an "old" iOS req.

Draw something states Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.Requires iOS 3.0 or later. So Yes it will.
Out of interest the thing that will go fast on them is usually the battery, so make sure it has decent life on it for a refurb. Obviously if it's apple refurb then that will be sorted, but also apple refurb tends not to be that cheap compared to the price of a new item/newer model.

If I'm not mistaken I think iOS 4.2.1 is the last version the 2nd Gen iPod could update to. The most recent iOS update released is 5.1.

Just make sure any apps you download will work on iOS 4.2.1 and don't forget the 2nd Gen didn't have an HD screen.

Like Lifeforms said watch for the battery. I have an old, now unused, 2nd Gen Touch sitting on my desk that has gone through 2 batteries in a year.
