Laptop connects to router but will not connect to Internet

I was hoping someone could help me regarding the following:
I have today had to use a new wireless router as my old one died. The router connects to my laptop, the signal strength is "excellent" according to the "network and sharing center" but the laptop will not connect to the Internet.
My netbook and family's smart phones work fine using this router as do the two desktops we have connected via cables but my laptop won't. I have had to connect it via a cable. I have tried all sorts re-starting computer disconnected and reconnected but nothing works. I am totally stumped!
Any advice gratefully received.

If it was mine, I would do/try the following, bearing in mind I don't know what lappie you have, nor yr OS, nor what AV you have/firewall etc.
Thinking off the top of my head, in no particular order; (i) I would try with firewall off. (ii) have a look at the device manager and see what it says about the wireless adapter on/off/working normally? (iii) check that the wireless switch was on. (iv) make sure that you didn't have a static IP address for the old router. (v) reset the DNS/IP/winsock settings.
If you need more info on any of these please revert with more info on yr setip.0 -
I have just had an ordeal getting my new wireless Access Point to connect with an ipod touch. The problem was that the DHCP was not enabled in the router configuration. Once I enabled it the problem was solved.0

As you've replaced your router, I wonder if the new router uses a different IP range than your old one and your laptop has a static IP (fixed) whereby all other devices obtain the IP automatically.
Assuming you're on a Windows machine as 90% odd people are anyway...
Go to Control Panel (Start > Control) and then View Network Status and Tasks
Then Change Adapter Settings
Then Double Click on the Wireless Card Connection
Then Properties
Then Double Click on Inernet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)
Are both options obtain automatically? If not, change it so that they are.
If they are already, try adding changing the DNS bit to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.40 -
Thanks, I'll try those suggestions when I get back from work. I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D laptop and use Windows Vista.0

IMO, Easier to go into the command prompt (with admin rights) and enter "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes of course!
While there I would also reset the IP as follows
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
then reboot.0 -
BEFORE making changes to DNS settings, go back to the Network and Sharing Center. If the wireless connection is set as "Public", change it to "Private" or "Home" and it will work. How do I add a signature?0

I'd also clear the profile so the laptop asks you to re-enter the network key -just in case it was typoed when you entered it. Also if it's aHP or Vaio try connecting it with wep rather than wpa -I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If an invalid network key had been entered, the OP wouldn't have a connection between laptop and router, and you cannot choose the security mode on a per-device basis - if the router has been set to WPA2, all devices must use WPA2. Using WEP is also a security risk. How do I add a signature?0
