HI,
I have had a letter offering insurance for water pipes as it says I am responsible for my water pipes from the stop tap to the mains supply in the street. I was just wondering Is it worth taking up the insurance they offer incase of leaks etc?
Thanks
Jen

It's quite expensive cover - your own home insurance covers damage to underground pipes including the incoming water main anyway, although this will not necessarily pay out if the pipes leak due to old age, whereas the water company policy will I think provide additional cover for the plumbing work in this instance.
However, like extended warranties, these type sof policy are really profit making marketing exercises for the companies rather than a genuinely useful and value for money product. I would keep the money in your pocket and work out how many years saving the premium would go to paying for any repairs if they are ever needed.0 -
It is only £11 per year but I will look into the buildings insurance first.

Its not worth it.
I'm a plumber and can count on two fingers the amount of times in the last 15 years I've had a job like that to do.
Of course if our winters were to get drastically colder :rotfl: then yes it would be a good idea to guard against burst pipes.0 -
we used to get people ring up all the time to check if this was already covered on their buildings policy, as they had been offered coverhelp0
