Well ill give you one reason why NHH is a mess. the D0313 flow. Half the Suppliers, DC, DR ect dont even accept it at the moment. Its made massive changes to the registration of a meter. I don't even understand how anyone other than a dedicate "smart" company would deal with it. their IT systems will literally die.

I believe totally its a case of people not being trained correctly or listening to experts.

Well, the flow itself should be able to transmit or be received by the parties stated in the DTC, whether they have taken the project further to actually use is another matter...;)

From what I've seen in some trials, the MOP just becomes a go between to send/receive compliant flows and the supplier contract a smart metering firm to do the actual set ups but its been messy.

You would think that wouldn't you, but one of the major suppliers DTN Gateway just rejects the flow..

Hmm, im not sure how other mops / suppliers have their setup for smart metering.

heres on example, Supplier appoints us as MOP, we act as purely mop of the dataflows, another smart metering company does the installs and dc/dr from the meter. It is a complete and utter mess.

Brilliant example of why you shouldn't use "smart metering" companies who cant even afford their own mop license..

Sounds like they didn't implement the DTC change then, making them non compliant. Just shows that there is no external test/monitoring of change management roll outs!

Sadly, working this puts the smart metering company outside if MRA practice and the BSC. So, its up to the supplier completely and everything is back to paper based comms. Just like all those missing RPS meter changes!

They've even been piggybacking the market domain data but using MOP's that don't operate certain types of meter in the DNO region they are fit in. The result being incorrect reflections of data in the distributors MPAS. Total mess.

We are on standard lecy, paying cash quarterly, which we wanted to do.

After I've put the reading in ready for the bill, or if a meter reader comes, I read it aswell, I work the bill out, so when I get it I can check to see if it's correct.

With the smart meter taking the reading automatically, so I wouldn't know what the reading was, I wouldn't be able to work the bill out, and never know if they ever make mistakes would I?

When the bill gets to you, you can check your meter and it should be inline. Its going to be a little higher due to the days between a meter reader visit and your bill arriving, which may be a couple of weeks or so, but you can work out your daily usage between the 2 and then you can see if its normal.

You'll still be able to work your bill out if you know your usual billing date - you just go and read the meter on that day. The in house display shows you what you are paying for by day, week and month anyway.

As for a meter reader - they still be coming round for a while yet, so you'll know when a bill is coming :rotfl:

The parents have one on trial with e.on - display works great (shows pretty accurately the cost when an actual bill is received), shame it struggles to get the reads updated all the way to their online account. Their meter reader still turns up every 6 months as well

The billing date is inside a window, often know as the billing cyclic calendar. The supplier can advise what range of dates the account is in and then the OP can check the meter. Its not going to be out by much really.

Smart are still only trials using different technologies. In some cases, the trials are 3rd party so the utility supplier is not connected and may not even be away its going on. All these trials are allowed but not agreed to be the future, so suppliers and their agents are still bound by the SLC's, MRA & BSC.
