Let property whilst travelling

Hi,

Any advice would be gratefully recieved. Me and my partner bought a house (First time buyers) and moved into it in December last year.

We have always intended on going travelling a few years ago but my dad became ill and so we were unable to go then. Now time has passed we are intending on going travelling in october time this year (we knew this was the plan when we bought the house).

I have enough saved to cover the mortgage while we are away (For around 6/7 months) but ideally i would rent out the property whilst we are away.

Does any one know if we would have to inform the mortgage company about this? And what would be their likely response?

Anyone have similar experiances? Could there be problems as we have had the mortgage for such a short time (althgough we paid a 10% deposit).

Cheers!

You will want to tell first and foremost your insurance company. Then, it generally is a good idea to tell the mortgage company as they could ask you to move your mortgage or pay it off, if they find out.
