JSA and Student leaving University

Just wanted some advice. My daughter is in her final year at Uni and will be looking for work as soon as she's finished her exams, she is hoping to remain in the the City where she's at Uni. In the event that she's not successful at getting a job soon,is there a point at which she'll be able to apply for JSA. Obviously she has a loan that goes in in May and this will keep her going for a short time (given that she has to pay rent and will now need to pay Council Tax etc).
Thanks.

She needs to identify when the official end date of her course is. Before this date she will still be classed as a student even if she has finished, and will not be able to claim benefits

Thanks, but for some reason I had thought the fact that they have a loan at this time of year, they would be seen as having an income as such, is that not the case?

It is the case, even though her exams have ended, the course may not officially end until June/July, therefore excluding her from JSA entitlement until that date.

Her University will tell her when her official course end date is.

    Until that time,

she is entitled to CT exemption
she is not entitled to JSA or LHA.

Where is she living? Shared accomodation? What is the local LHA limit?

Ordinarily when they get their loan in April May it's supposed to last until the come back in the September. I think I'll get her to give them a ring on Monday, unless someone knows anything more.Thanks.

They get less money in year three because the course ends in June/July.
No point ringing SFE, she needs to speak to her UNi about her end date.

She should make a claim the day after her course is officially finished, however she may still not get any benefit for a further 3 months due to the nature of the student loan, i.e a student loan covers you for 12 months but the course is only for 9 months. This is my understanding, but don't take my understanding as fact....which is why she should make her claim the day after the course finishes and see what the jobcentre tells her.

SFE may very well be able to confirm the period the loan covers her for.

Whilst she is speaking to the UNI about the end date she should request the info in writing.... to later give to the jobcentre

epitome, your understanding which was pretty much along the same lines as mine.
Today I was sorting through some papers of hers that she'd left at home and it was a letter exempting her from Council Tax and it mentions her end date as 14/6/2012. Eitherway she can verify with her Uni on Monday. Thanks everyone.
