Right is weaker. The lower the denominator the better, the numerator tells you what distance you were tested at (we test some kids from 3 meters, adults are usually 6 meters or 3 meters with a mirror).

I can never understand my son's eye test results. His prescription is written differently to nannytone's though. On my son's sheet it says sph +2.50, cyl +1.50 (both eyes) and axis 100 (right eye), axis 80 (left eye). These are for distance, with no figures in the 'near' column. He wears his glasses all the time.

Incidentally, there is a spelling mistake on the back - patients is spelled "patinet's" :rotfl:

Your son won't need a near prescription because he can accommodate. Accommodation is something all children can do but your eyes stop accommodating gradually over time and that's why adults of a certain age need reading glasses.

The prescription basically means that your son sees better in far distance but not so much near, he has a fair bit of astigmatism (the cyl) it's not huge but it can cause distortion and headaches if not corrected.

Thanks Jen - that makes sense to me, especially as occasionally he does tell me that his heads hurts. I've usually put it down to tiredness, but now I'll watch out for when it happens in case he is due an eye test.
