Full double glazing quote

Options
A little bit of advice would be good. I'm looking to replace all of the windows and the back door in the house. I've just had a visit and quote from Everest to act as a guide for other quotes. Basic details are below:

1) Lounge window - PVC-U Casement, 240cm wide x 150cm high, Energy saver plus sealed unit, golden oak sills, etc.

2) Dining room window - PVC-U Casement, 110cm wide x 150 cm high, Energy saver plus sealed unit, golden oak sills, etc.

3) Kitchen window - PVC-U Casement, 145cm wide x 105cm high, Energy saver plus sealed unit, golden oak sills, etc.

4) Back Door - PVC-U Entrance Door, 90cm wide x 210cm high

5) Bedroom windows (x3) - PVC-U Casement window, 145cm wide x 120cm high, Energy saver plus sealed unit, golden oak sills, etc.

6) Ensuite window - PVC-U Casement window, 90cm wide x 90cm high, Energy saver plus sealed unit, golden oak sills, etc.

Gross cost £13, 353.00

From the research I've done so far this is more than a little on the high side but some advice from here would be useful.

For your reference, in case there's anybody on here that would be prepared to quote!!! or has experience with people from around here, I live in Fife.

I worked as a rep for Everest, we were always on the high side although not always the dearest. You'll probably find a small local firm to do the job for less than half that quote. But i still believe Everest to be one of the best if you can afford it.
    ps,
I got mine here done by a cheap local firm, and they've been Ok, but only Ok.

We just got a quote from a local firm thats two bay windows, 5 single windows, kitchen and bathroom and porch , bedroom window and French doors .. he was so much below what we had estimated we're having the front door as well the whole thing will be about £4000 thats mates rates as my son-in-law works with him but even so its far below your quote and gives some idea how much profit they put on.. get a quote from a local guy ask around among your neighbours ..
EDIT: we live in London by the way..

That does seem expensive. I have heard Everest have the best product but then I've also heard they sub-contract fitting, which is not so good. We recently had some double glazing replaced by a fairly large and well known company. They have a reputation for being "the best" locally, though I have my doubts. Their quote was in line with another big local firm. We signed up on the night with their rep, had second thoughts and cancelled within 7 days, as is your right if you sign a contract in your home. They eventually took £800 off the price (presumably the sales commission) and we went ahead with the work. Worth bearing in mind. I would think about going with a company registered with the Glass and Glazing Federation. Anyone who installs DG will need to be FENSA registered as basically this is just a self cert mechanism to comply with building regs. Fewer companies are GGF members but it does at least offer an additional avenue for recourse if there are problems with the installation. Also, pay your deposit on a credit card. This gives further protection as the credit card company is equally liable even if you have only partially paid this way. This could be very useful if, for example, the company you contract to do the work goes bust, the work is not up to standard and they refuse to rectify any problems, etc.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:_pale__pale_:silenced::shocked::shocked::shocked::eek::eek::eek: had to go into advanced for all them icons. Thats a stupid price and dont let them back over your door because thats daylight robbery price and have tried to mug you even if its box sash comming out(which i dont think it is otherwise you would have mentioned it and you said golden oak cill which makes me think its already on your outside coarse brickwork .) . Mentally A6windows is about right less than 5k with room to drop that more depending what work is needed inside & out. Everest are just decent with some good fitters but mainly average . Frames are not the best but fitted well you wont have problems with them. Thats all i can say . Fife is too far sorry but shop around and get reccomendations off people

I would never, ever ever use Everest.

We just got a quote from a local firm for a similar size job to this for £3500.

I have heard of everest fitting FAR FROM THE BEST quality product. It's all nonsense and their 'image' is driven by a business model that targets members of the public drawn in by advertising. High spend on marketing, continual brand awareness campaign, high prices with sales-driven targets. Anyone who uses them is, in my mind, a bit thick.
