Happy Birthday text from Experto

Options
Maybe I'm over reacting to this. I thought it better in here than debt subforum.

Yesterday I recieved a text from Experto credit who have taken over my MBNA debt. They have previously forced me into a repayment of £62 per month I can little afford. I had suggested a figure of 30-40 and reminded them that the professional advice I'd sought was declaring bankrupcy but that I chose to ignore that advice and was willing to clear my debts. Apparently the £62 was a more "round figure" to allow dividing it up over so many years!

So, I was enjoying a modest birthday, working on some business admin while getting the odd text from friends. I then get one: "Happy Birthday Mr X XAs we have a special birthday gift for you. Please contact Experto on xxx and quote ref xxx to find out more"

I waited until today before calling them. The gift would be a reduced amount due if I paid the debt off in full. Now while I appreciate special offers. If I had the amount due I would pay it.

I'm actually not big on birthdays, no streamers, gifts are discouraged etc but this type of text I find invasive and, more importantly, a misuse of my personal data. They hold my data for the purposes of a credit arrangement.

Perhaps I'm over reacting?

Yes, you're over reacting - they've offered you a deal, which you don't have to take up if you don't want to - just ignore it and move on.

It's not about the deal, it's the way the deal was offered.

If it were an unrepeatable deal then perhaps but: The early settlement discount was the same on my birthday as any of the other 365.
