trying to move house when renting

i'm really struggling on how it is possible to move flat when you rent. It's normal to always pay a month rent up front but how do you get money to pay your deposit before the old one is returned?

my and my flatmates really want to move out but have no idea where i would get the deposit money from. and i'm terrified the landlord is going to be 'difficult' with the deposit. We're in a private let at the moment and there is no tenancy agreement. and there is no way i could wait months and months to get it back.

it's really stressing me out, just wish it was simpler

I don't have any answers really but I was in the same situation 2 years ago and my LA took 2 months to return my deposit!! In order to move I had to get a loan from my bank in order to pay one months rent in advance and one months rent as deposit. I didn't have any other option at the time as my LL had sold the property and we had to move out asap.

My credit history in not too great at the moment so I don't know what I would do if I had to move out. Its not as if I have any spare cash to save and put towards a deposit and I'm sure you are in the same kind of situation.

You use savings or borrow it.

Why would your landlord be difficult? Most people are reasonable if you talk to them unless you have caused a nuisance.

Some landlords (and this is not legal) allow you to use your deposit as the last month's rent. However you must talk to them before doing this and from April your deposit will have to put in a deposit scheme, so you won't be able to do this at all in future.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
