In 2001 i invested 7000 in the aberdeen inv trust which is now new star technology trust. At the present time the value has dropped to 2000,is there any chance my inv will ever rise to at least the level in which i invested.

What unfortunate timing

You really should have cut your losses years ago.Trying to keep it simple...

We did the same with Henderson technology - FiL bought them at 50p and nagged and nagged us to invest so eventually we did when they were about £5 - he sold his original £5k for £50K and we lost a bundle!!!! C'est la vie - so is the moral of the tale to listen to your father in law??

I'd managed to forget about this one and not happy to be reminded. Like a typical unwise investor I invested at the top but at least only £1000. I think I got £200 back. This was one of my two poor investments.0 -
moral of the story is not to stick all your money into just one fund and pick a high risk fund as well.
If you invested relatively late on, you would need a return of around 900% to get your money back.
As it happens, tech funds havent done too badly recently. However, even if you were to get the recent performance each and every year, it would actually be closer to 30 years and not 20 as I first suggested. In reality you arent going to get performance like that every year so if you take an average that reflects specialist funds more closely, you would be looking at around 70 years to get your money back.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Ah but dunstonh we were young and inexperienced - and just wished we'd bought at 50p like we were nagged to do!! hindsight is a wonderful thing!! I've got a slightly better idea of what I'm doing now and spread the risk a bit more - japanese yen are looking interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:
