DFDS Newcastle - Hotel / parking?

We're planning to go on the Newcastle to Bergan (Norway) Mini cruise in October.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me the parking situation at the docks and also if there is a cheap hotel/travelodge for the return journey. I've looked on DFDS website but not sure even where in Newcastle the docks is (apart from on the water's edge of course!)
Thanks in advance,
Jill

The port is around 6 miles from Newcastle city centre - in North Shields - there is a car park at the port and it costs around £8 per day to park your car there. I live in Newcastle and have done the mini cruise a few times - you'll have great fun!
Bear in mind that there is a fabulous shopping outlet next to the port called Royal Quays - well worth a visit before or after your trip."How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."0 -
Just found this:
From Newcastle City Centre:
Take the A1 towards Morpeth and then the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. On Approach to the tunnel, follow the International Ferry symbol onto the A187 towards North Shields.
Continue along this road to the roundabout, take the second exit to the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays.
From the North:
Head for the Tyne Tunnel via the A19, then follow the directions as above.
From the South: Approach via the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. Once through the tunnel join the A187 and proceed as above.
Please Note: Drivers approaching from the South should allow extra time during the summer months when the tunnel can be extremely busy."How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."0 -
Tigger36 - that's the 'Great Circle' route from the city centre
Just take the 'Coast Road' (A1058) towards Tynemouth from the central motorway. Then the slip road down to the A19 after about 5 miles, turn south on the A19 and follow the instructions above.
If you have time spend a few hours in Newcastle, a great city. The tourist office near Grey's Monument (Monument station on the Metro) has all the visitors' help you'll need.Nice to save.0 -

 That's going to add another £40 onto the trip! It's free parking at P & O ferries in Hull.
Any idea of the closest Travelodge with a car park (not to keep the car there when we're on the cruise). I've found that city centre Travelodges often don't have their own car park and you also have to pay to park.
Just checked the return train fare (although could only check dates up to 12 weeks) and it would be £31 each on the train. Assuming they don't put up the prices too much, it would be cheaper to go on the train than pay fuel for a 4 hour journey to Newcastle and then £40 car parking fees.
I guess we'll keep sussing out the options. Thanks both of you.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Hi, there is actually a Premier Travel Inn right next to the Ferry Terminal by the Royal Quays shopping outlet. Rooms are between £52-55 (don't know if there are special rates) and parking is free. It has only opened very recently, so would assume it's in quite good condition, too!0

Both the Premier Travel Inn & Royal Quays next door are wise to folk dumping their cars - plus it's within spitting distance of Meadowell so unless your car is in a secure car park the odds are it won't be where you left it when you return0
