Stress and benefit

have recently quit my job as I felt Ill and stressed all the time, work was making my life a living hell, I was seeking a less stressful job, but couldn't take anymore grief and walked out. . I have now been to doctor who has signed me off sick with stress. Can I claim any benifit as I have quit my job?

Well it would depend on your current income (if any) from others in the household or if you have savings or dependants etc. But you might be able to claim housing benefit, ESA if your signed off sick apply for that anyway, you might also be able to get help with paying your council tax and water rates.

Did you actually quit, or were you fired for walking out? This makes a difference, not to what benefits you can claim, but how long you may have to wait before getting payments.
You should check that you have actually lost your job one way or the other too, they may not have ended your contract as yet, if this is the case you should be claiming sick pay through work.
You should be entitled to ESA, LHA (formally housing benefit), even for a mortgage, and council tax benefit.
You should also seek advice from a lawyer to see if you have grounds to claim against your employer due to working conditions.

If the job was making you stressed and you quit your job then what have you been signed off from? No job=no stress.

Leaving a stressful situation does not make you instantly better. The effects stay for a while, in my experience.

Good grief. You might be sanctioned and therefore lose benefits. You will have a hell of a time getting another job if your reaction to stress is to walk away. I'd be interested to see what you say when asked why you left your last job....

Consider taking a course on stress management.

ETA: I see from your other posts that you resigned by text, got a sick note for a week from your Doctor and that your company have offered you the opportunity to go into work and discuss the situation. Have you accepted their offer?
