Ours was folded into a small emvelope too which now sits in our filing cabinet. It's longer than A4 size if I remember correctly. Unless you get copies, you'll have to fold it to send it off to change your name on things anyway.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • You sign the register and sign the certificate one you get to keep (which is a technically a copy anyway), usually handed to you before you leave the vestry and walk down the aisle. Don't think I sent mine anywhere - might have sent a photocopy to the bank once though.

We found that a lot of places refused copies and we had to send the real thing off about 6 times. I was amazed that we still ended up with the thing at the end.

In this day and age, there should really be a single place you can send it to to be verified....such a hassle (especially as you have to provide recorded delivery return envelopes each time...)

I meant buying specific copies from the Register Office, not ones you've copied yourself. It's no different to the real thing you just have more than one version of it. There is of course a charge for ordering more.

  • We got 2 marriage certificates in an envelope that said 'our marriage certificate' straight after our wedding. That way they then went safely into my mums handbag.

We also paid £10 to have a commentrative copy produced which we have in a frame in our living room.
Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 2016
