Coverage in Bangor is a 'mare. I changed over to o2 from Orange this week, luckily i was out of contract. Did cost me to get my phone un-locked. Seems it's going to be untill December before the signall problem is fixed.

Daughter and son in law have now/had an orange contract, think about 14 months still to run. They got in touch with Orange about lack of signal in Bangor. Got a lot of run around phoning them, times would not let them talk to anyone senior. Orange said they would get someone to phone them back, never did. On Tuesday they got hold of someone on phone and she said no problem, go down to your local shop and they will cancel the contract. So they did and even got to keep their mobiles, or at least Orange didn't ask for them back.:D. They are now on Vodaphone as o2 is a bit iffy where they live. Pester them folks.

    Result!

    Orange responded as follows

"I am now able to comply with your free of charge disconnection request, however this is being offered purely as a gesture of goodwill. Ordinarily the circumstances involved do not justify disconnection free of charge. However, I am able to offer this due to the exceptional circumstances involved."

    Was worth persevering.
  • I have also been having the same problem with no orange service at all in Bangor. Have rung them several times but as it works ok at my postcode they don't see a problem. However I work, socialise, shop in Bangor so Everytime I go out over the door the phone is useless! I got the email address for Olaf Swantee off here (thank you) and have been corresponding with "executive office". They refuse to let me out of contract early without charge and have offered reduced tariff. Their line is that they cannot offer service 100% of the time. There's been a lot of emailing back and forth and Ive asked for a copy of the contract where it states this and a copy showing my rights to cancel. No reply. I also told them I'd be taking the matter to OFCOM and CISAS and today I've a voicemail from executive office (obviously phone doesn't work during day as I told them!!)
Any advice for me for when I call them back? The phone is no use, well orange not the phone. Until the mast is repaired from the moment I leave me house each day until I return home I cannot use my phone- £41 pm contract and 18 months to go!!

Ofcom are aware of the current problems in Bangor town centre which have been ongoing for several months. Stick with the tack you are on - if you were getting the service you required when you took out the new contract then it is unfair that the level of service should have changed which has had a material negative effect. I would go ahead and report this to Ofcom, they will not get involved in individual complaints but it is helpful for them to note issues.

I suspect there is something else on offer if they are trying to contact you. Good luck.
  • Thanks BigAl,
Yes sticking to my guns. Have no service from 830 am to 530pm Monday to Friday and another time im
Out of the house. Won't be letting go until they let me out of contract

  • Just wanted to update you that Orange have offered me my PAC code and am free to leave contract early without charge. They also refunded line rental for the period phone out of service.
    I think that's called a result!
    Glad I persevered. :j

    Quote from church website
    Orange Statement

    07-17-2011

Everything Everywhere Limited, trading as Orange, operated telecommunications equipment from the spire of Bangor Parish Church under the terms of a licence agreement. The parish chose to terminate the contract and gave the required 12 months notice to Orange in July 2010. The licence formally ended on 14 July 2011.

It is a matter of concern to us that following termination of the licence, Orange refuses to remove its equipment from the spire. Since 14 July 2011, no payment has been sought by or on behalf of the parish from Orange. The parish receives no benefit, financial or otherwise, from the continued presence of the equipment in the spire. The matter is in the hands of solicitors and we can make no further comment at present.
