British Gas - Websaver 11 - End of deal May 31st

I've just received an email from BG informing me that Websaver11 ends on May 31st, 2012.
So I did the sensible thing and popped on to USwitch and Energyhelpline to see what options were available.
Amazingly the cheapest BG tariff available to me would cost me over £100 extra per year for my annual usage. I always compare with Annual Kwh as I feel it's more accurate.
Scottish Power's Online Fixed Price Energy July 2013 saves me around £50 a year compared to Websaver11.
So the closing question... Why are British Gas so far out with their tariffs, basically at least a £150 differential exists between them as Scottish Power?
Any advise is welcome.
Thanks.

British Gas were criticised for having too many tarrifs that were confusing people. So they scrapped the cheapest ones and now only offer three.
They do seem to be 10% dearer than the cheapest out there atm.
I expect others to do the same, they have to find the money for solar FIT payments from somewhere!!That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I have the BGas Tarriff as well, 1 quick query when moving, do you have to wait until May 31sy to move (to avoid cancellation fee) or is there a "window" in which you can start the process of changing over? I know from experience to change over can take from anywhere between 2-6 weeks..
EDF Energy so far showing as best for me, fixed until June 20130 -
In my area for my consumption, they are coming out second behind First Utility. This is a Sainsbury's Energy tariff, which is essentially just British Gas.
Although nothing will pry me away from my EDF fixed tariff!0 -

I've just applied to switch from BG Websaver11 to EDF and have just received my welcome pack from EDF. They say there's a 12 day cooling off period and it should then take about 3 weeks to switch my gas and electricity supply over to them after that (which should take me up to the 31st May end of contract date).
However, I'm planning to speak to EDF to make sure that the switch is definitely not completed until after this date, just in case it goes through quicker than expected. The only problem I'm having at the moment though is that EDF's customer service number's not working, and their website also appears to be down...
I'm beginning to wonder if switching to them is such a good idea after all!0 -

After your cooling off period, the supplier registers you to the distributor, who then passes on the request to your current supplier so they can object if required. This date is future dated but it must be after your contract end to avoid a cancellation charge.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

The time to switch is irrelevant, its the Supplier Start Date that counts as that's your switch date. The quoted 4-6 weeks is all the data transfer and set up that occurs after this date.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I have also been told that websaver 11 is ending on 31st. On my annual usage, Npower comes out £270 cheaper than the best new BG tariff. Sorry BG, I think you have shot yourself in the foot!0

My websaver 11 is also ending on May 31. I put my Kwh usage into comparison engines and only 2 vendors came out better, one by £11 the other by £8. So, for me Im staying with BG and taking the free £50 incentive to stay with them (annually).0

They have simply introduced simplified tarriffs which is what everyone was bleating on about and demanding, same as all the others will soon do. All those nice cheap tarriffs for smart shoppers will be gone so we will all be paying lots more, but hey.....at least it will be 'fair'.0 -
