Thank the lord for the ingenius https://www.saynoto0870.com, but how frustrating when there is no number on there for your local Royal Mail sorting office.
What annoys me is you dial the number on your card, spend 2 minutes listening to utter drivel, and then when you press the option button for the sorting office, it rings engaged and cuts you off!
10 times now. Nice little money maker for Royal Mail. I wouldnt mind but I went into their website on Wednesday to organise redelivery for today, have waited in to catch the postman, he has shoved post through my door and no sign of my recorded delivery letter.
What happened to the good old days when you dial a number, it rings engaged and you try 10 minutes later and keep trying to someone answers. Nowaways, you have to wait in a queue, listen to a load of codswallop, to then be put through to an engaged tone.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
Hopefully I will feel better after this high speed typing rant, but probably not!

Slightly OT but it's the same with people who've got 1571 - if they're engaged on another call when you ring, you are automatically connected to the 1571 answering machine - and have to pay for a connected call (6p minimum on BT now) even if you don't want to leave a message and hang up immediately.
If they didn't have 1571, you'd have heard the (free) engaged tone and could've called back.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
0845 numbers are local rate though so not as dear as 0870 fortunately

Oh dear Sara - you're another one who's been fooled.SaraSeahorse wrote:0845 numbers are local rate though so not as dear as 0870 fortunately
In common with many on MSE, my CPS provider gives me free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls for no monthly fee. I use 1899 or 18185 for my peak UK 01/02 calls.
So, my 'local' calls (there's no such thing any more anyway - calls to any 01 or 02 number costs the same) cost me nothing during the evening and at weekends and 5p (for a call of any duration) at peak times.
If I have to make 0845 calls, they always costs more than that - so they are never 'local rate'.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. re the royal mail phone no-been there, done it,should have got the t-shirt.my local office nevers answers.i agree about the frustration!!why cant they just have an engaged tone so it doesnt cost any money when you cant get through?i hate the companies with loads of options, none of which is ever the one you want?i sent an email from the website and and found they were really good.cos i had sent the email they had to chase it up and the local sorting office had to look into cos it came from a higher source instead of ignoring it cos it came froma phone call from joe public.People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with
