Google Drive

Got my 'drive' tonight , and I have come to the conclusion that it would be easier / safer to create a new gmail account and then request a new drive for that account . 'Drive' would then have a separate identity.

I would then use my 1st account/drive to store personal files and my second account/drive to 'share'
Does this seem sensible?

Ps don't bother to tell me about google not being 100% safe , unlike
Robert Murdoch my life is so boring no one would really interested in my files.

Are you aware that in the T&C that you lose all copyright to any files you put on Google Drive? Are you aware that there have been issues of files being placed in ads being served? Are you aware that any restricted access files are apparently easily accessed by unauthorised people through some kind of Gmail issue?

Am FULLY aware , but I see all the advantages available and see all your fears as groundless.

    Google :D , i think its drivegoogle !

I have a few lists / numbers / addresses etc etc that I obviously backed up but a fresh approach is always welcome. As I posted , anyone looking at my emails/ listening to my phone calls etc would die of boredom . Therefore I will take a huge risk :rotfl: that the C.I.A/ FBI or MI6 will call.

Technically they need those T&C's so that they can legally let you share files to others.

As it's on their machine some data protection laws stop them letting others have access unless you've given them permission to. But just sharing a folder is not considered giving permission since it's Google's servers that are actually sharing the files not your machines. So legally they need the right to access your data in order to share it.

Really...? I'd be surprised if that were the case (although this is Google we're talking about!). Are you sure that the terms don't instead say that you agree to grant Google a licence to use your files...?

    Hmm, not impressed.

I ticked the box to find out more and next thing I know all my google docs are on a damn drive - I want to get them back where they were.

I do not want to install google drive, I just wanted to know more.

They just renamed "Google Docs" to "Google Drive" everything's the same! you DON'T need to use the drive function if you don't want too.

Anyhoo you get an extra 3Gb so your Gmail can hold 10Gb instead of the old 7Gb limit.
