...Perhaps I can help shed a bit of light on this - I am Chairman of our local pre-school/nursery...

I have further questions for you lol.

These 2 children are with us until they're 18 as we have a residency order on them.

He is 3yrs old, he's a CIN and the nursery does provide food but it's included in the total daily price.

He goes from 8:30-17:30 every Friday, mostly the fee's are paid for but there is always a small amount left for us to pay.

We also have a 2yr old girl who goes to the same nursery (fully paid for with a 10% sib disc.) who is also a CIN would I be able to get any funding for her?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Speak to your Health Vistor (ask them about the 2 year funded) and also ring your local Childrens Centre and ask to speak to a Family Support Worker or Head of Centre as a LAC parent having this link is good regardless of funding. Either one can explain how the funded places work, entitlement and how they are applied for (never guaranteed - but no application means no grant).

Cliecost - everything which princessdon said!:D

With regard to the extra costs incurred for your 3yr old, I would think that the cost for food is the extra that you are paying.

When the new Early Years Single Funding Formula was piloted in this area (what a joy and confusion that caused everybody:eek:) we had a LEA meeting where many settings asked about funding covering lunch etc.

Simply the answer from the LEA was that funding could easily cover the time, but obviously not any food. So, even if food is included in the total daily price, funding would not be allowed to be put towards meals only the lunch hour(s).

I suspect that a child attending your nursery all day for non-funded hours do not have to pay extra for meals - the daily fees are probably more than the funding the nursery receives from the LEA.

The nursery could always absorb the cost of food they provide, but I doubt they do - we provide snacks free, but those attending the lunch club bring their own packed lunch (no fizzy or chocolate please - oops just done the revised parent pack its stuck in my brain!!:rotfl:)

I hope this helps. If you need any more help no probs - if I do not know the answer (or pricessdon doesn't!) the administrator at our nursery knows her job inside out and back to front - I can ask her on Monday!!!

    Keep us posted.

your using a funded nursery so you can rest??

The government funds nursery places for children whether both parents work or not as they see this as "investing" in the childs future. I paid for both my boys to goto nursery full time while I worked but i did get 15 hours free and I have found that my son who started school last September is far more advanced and outgoing then the children whose parents decided not to put them in nursery. I am not working at the moment (new baby) and my partner works but currently my son only has the 15 hours and they are a life saver. He goes for 3 hours a day which gives me time while my baby is napping to clean the bathrooms do some gardening ironing or even shopping or even just to rest. If people pay into the government through taxes why shouldn't they get something back?

    Agree fully.

As I said on Friday open to all, not means tested and parents can do what they want when they 'lose' their little ones for a few hours.

A child that is a CIN should get 2 year old funding. The criteria for 2 year old funding will be the same as the criteria for free school meals however a CIN, Looked after Child or a child on the CP register are basically fast tracked for entitlement.
