I second the tomato sauce trick! Our female beagle loves fox poo (horrible fishy smell) and the male loves fox wee (sickly smell). Tomato sauce breaks down the smell (I think it's the vinegar that does it) and makes it easier to get out of the coat. I've just bought some puppy shampoo from Amazon (apparently beagles can have sensitive skin) and a spray that they use in the grooming parlours - they smell lovely after a bath now!

Mutt absolutely loves the hairdryer on the warm setting as long as I keep it away from her head and face. She raises one leg at a time with a completely idiotic blissed out look. Get it any where near her face though and she bites it and scarpers.
Nowadays though she can't get up the stairs to the bathroom (well she can, but getting down again is a health and safety issue for both of us, as I found out when I left the gate open the other day.) So I'm having to put up with the pong until it's warm enough to wash her outside in the yard.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Another vote for tomato ketchup, little blob, rub in, wash out. Can't help with the general smell, but I have just bought some really nice smelling shampoo that might help with the wet dog smell (totally useless info and I have no idea what it's called)
  • I have also used tomato ketchup.

I use Groomers Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo (from Pets at Home). It is gentle and smells nice. It makes my westies coat lovely and doesn't affect his skin.

Have a look at 'pet head' shampoos. I just bought the dry shampoo, easy to use and it smells great, I think its blueberry scent. The smell only lasts a couple of days but gets rid of the bad smells

If you do end up dunking her in the bath, put something over the plug hole to catch the fur.

Learnt that the other weekend when I dunked Tyson, and now I have a blocked bath!

I put her in the bath tonight, used shower head to wash the shampoo off, it has went well.

She wasn't too keen on hairdryer but settled after a bit and is all fluffy now. It took ages but her coat looks brilliant and no stinky smell.
