How hard can this be?
Nephew in early 20's, professional, can afford £300 per month.
Option 1 are a lettings agency who want you to pay £50 a time to reserve a property. Went to do this today on advice of agent are viewing a property this morning, had a query on online form so called and found out property removed. Had we paid then £50 non-refundable and lost (anyone see Watchdog last week?)
Option 2 are online ads but most seem to be out of date, people put them on but don't take them off when rented.
Option 3 is the search engines. My geography is poor but are Plymouth and Newcastle within a 30 minute cycle ride?
Off to scour newsagents windows tomorrow!!!
Any advice welcomed.
Cheers

From Wolverton across to Newport Pagnell.
Have called the ads in the papers before but most just go to voicemail and there is no responseOpinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.0 -
Perhaps you have to ring the ads the moment the paper comes out - it can be a right PITA.0

Just checking if you have tried spare room or uk easy room mate websites? Need to keep checking for any new ones.
Where is nephew working - some businesses have staff notice boards for this kind of thing. Also try local supermarkets and shop adverts (be wary)
Possibility that you might be pitching too low though - Milton Keynes is more expensive than where I live and the average room to rent is £350 here.Emergency savings: 4600
0% Credit card: 1965.000 -
Thanks all
The easyroommate and spare room websites all point to the same properties which are under the control of the letting agency I first mentioned. Typically these properties "have just let this morning" although there are others available. "Just let this morning" even if we have called for weeks LOL, makes me think this is a bit of a scam to get the non-refundable registration fees each time.
Ho-hum, guess we just need to keep tryingOpinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.0 -
Maybe he could ask around at work to find out how others found their room - once people know somebody's looking they might know a friend who has a room ... many people have a room, but wouldn't rent it out as they've a fear of who they'd get, but "somebody that works with ..." is a better bet, so it opens up opportunities that don't exist.0

Agreed. If that fails, then if there are any hospitals or large employers around, he could always put a Room Wanted notice on their staff notice boards.0 -

Thanks 00 (can I call you 00, seems forward
), my OH has spoken already. 2 rooms in same house, not sure when available but can pay a deposit to reserve.
Reluctant as he would prefer sooner rather than later and if he commits to this then would turn down anything else rather than lose deposit. Also the unknown availability doesn't help. A day? A week? A month? A year?Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.0
