Not sure if you can. You used to be able to sign it to over to offspring over seven years in advance (with magical hindsight) and it was safe, although many old poeple don't like doing it. I'm not sure of your circumstances but my mum went into a care home for her last 6 weeks with the last stages of cancer last year and the organising district nurse signed costs over to the LA as it wasn't worth going through all the stages for her to pay out of her estate. Another option if your mum still has her faculties is to get Power of attourney and rent it out using that to cover costs. As long as costs are covered they are happy.
