parents earnings=student grant

Hi

My dd is going to uni in a couple of years, I confess to knowing very little about student grants etc only that it depends on parents earnings. Can anyone point me to a website that can give me some idea how parents earnings relate to a possible student grant?

Many thanks

Sue

You will be able to find out what help your daughter would have received if she had been attending Uni this year via this website

Well for a start they are not grants anymore they are loans! My son went to university in 2002 (not in London) and he got about £4000 per year but less in the last year. The fees were around £1000 then and if you owe the university any money they will not let them graduate.

Nope - there are grants now too, under the 'new' system (kicked in last year). Finance is now split into:
    Fees loan.
    Maintenance grant.
    Maintenance loan.

all you need to know is on the Student Support Direct website...

  • I second DrFluffys recommendation.... https://www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk . Have found the site easy to use and as DrFluffy said, it will work out what you are entitled to, including any grants (not just loans). It has a fab calculator for working it all out. If not https://www.direct.gov.uk have some advice but the site can be pretty slow!!!!
