I started working for a company 3 weeks ago as a fork lift driver, traveling was taken quite a bit of my wagers and was about 8-9 pound a day there and back so i started looking for work more closer to home, (i was employed by an agency so if i dont come in i just dont get paid)

on the 3rd week a job opened up more local to me working for a different agency but i would have to come in bright and early monday morning to start work (nothing was in writing)

so i contacted my current agency on the friday before and said a job has opened up locally and i fully explained the situation and i was offered more money to stay so i said that if they left me know what they would offer i might consider it they never contacted me back and they also said they would contact my manager where i was sent to work to discuss if it is worth uping my wages i didnt hear anything for the rest of friday and nothing monday morning so monday morning i went to this new job that i believed was only offered to me..... i come in ready to start the new job and i am told that the job has now been filled by someone else!)

so i phone the agency who i worked for prior to this on the monday morning and i am told that i am not wanted back! and i let the company that i was being sent to work for DOWN! although i was told that they would phone me back to discuss an up in my wages but they never phoned me back!

so i said ok thats fine but i will have to sign back on and would they be able to write me a letter confirming there is no work for me currently and i am told yes and they they would do it now (MONDAY) i still havent recieved or heard anything from them and i have emailed twice. (job seekers require this other wise i will not get any money)

now i am stuck i cant sign on again as i need a letter to say that i am not volentarily leaving working for them and i cant find work at a snap of my fingers as there isnt anything around at the current time

LEGALLY DO EMPLOYERS HAVE TO RESPONDE TO EMAILS/LETTERS?

I never once said "i quit" or put anything in writing! and was more then happy to carry on working there if they raised my wages slightly!

I was also informed that i am no longer allowed to contact the company directly or any of its members of staff (where i was being sent to work)

so where do i stand?!

Legally employers do not have to do anything.

It will be your word against the jobcentre. They DO NOT require a letter. You have no job to return to and were let go from the new job on the same day your started so you should give the Jobcentre the phone number and address of the new employer and let them sort it out amongst themselves. It doesn't matter that you left your previous job to go to this one. You were made redundant on day one so will be entitled to benefits. It isn't your fault they changed their mind but be ready for a lot of questions. The lack of a signed contract does not matter.
