Hello, we have a company network that has an internal intranet. Whilst we are updating and testing a new site I wanted to temporarily divert all visitors who visit plantweaver.myb.uk from IP 36.155.784.1 to 36.155.784.2.
I assumed I'd see a pointer record somewhere but can't locate it under the myb.uk zone.
Any ideas for a proper noob to this

You need to change the a record for the server to the new address in the myb.uk zone. Pointer records do the opposite of a records.
Also clients may have the old ip address cached so you may have to clear the dns cache on each machine.
Alternatively just email everyone the ip address of the site to access.0 -

As mentioned about, the host record and pointer records are 2 different things. The one you want to edit is the host (A) record to point to the new IP address.
To be a little tidy, create a reverse lookup zone, and an a Pointer (PTR) record for the host.
If you can't find a record in DNS, then clients must be retrieving that resolution through another method - maybe via a GPO or local host file.
I say MSE segregates this forum, Techie Stuff into two sub-boards - Corporate and Home. I also say you make me the admin for the Corp sub-f.

I agree that you should be head of Corporate Techy board. My vote is yours
When I add A records under the zone, I can see the folders representing each level and then everything works. If I close down DNS Manager and go back to it though the sublevels have disappeared but everything still works. Where are the A records and reverse look up zones visible?0
