Christening present for 11 month old

Hi I have been invited to a christening, its my friends baby. I have never been to one before and have no idea what to buy. Do you buy for the baby or for the parents?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

For my sons christening, everything was bought for him. It doesn't have to be religious.

Some of the quirkier things I got were, coins of the year... From royal mint
    Name a star
    Massive caterpillar teddy

Nice things were, bowl cup and plate in winne the pooh, hungry caterpillar, first cutlery set in silver, first tooth box, I got 4 money boxes! Photo frame that says "my christening day".

    Plus clothes and toys.

    Hope that helps

    Xx

    you buy for the baby.
traditionally the baby is supposed to recieve silver items although i suspect that it is the godparents that is supposed to buy these.
as a friend i would probaly just buy a toy

  • I think a name a star gift would be a lovely christening present.

Pick a lovely childrens book that they will enjoy throughout childhood and write an inscription inside.

I was also going to suggest a set of coins from the year of their birth.

The Royal Mint does a beautiful set especially for babies
  • Have a peek at Bell and Walsh's website
    - they specialise in christening presents from godparents and have a great range of gifts for babies and children.
  • I went recently and got a few bits off eBay really cheap - got a personalised bib that said my christening day and their name and a little lucky sixpence with a poem in an organza bag. I can't post links but they were no more than a few pounds, hope this helps.
  • Go for a nice keepsake or something like the coins. I was given a set of newspapers from the day my DS was born all nicely presented and wraped up.

One thing that I would of liked would of been a nice box to keep all his little bits in. Like the cards given at the christening and when they were born etc.
  • Pick a lovely childrens book that they will enjoy throughout childhood and write an inscription inside.

I think a book is a lovely idea; the last couple of Christenings I have been to I have bought a hardback volume of Nursery Rhymes & a book of children's poetry respectively.
With a nice inscription inside, I hope it is something the family will keep (and use).

I don't wish to sound ungrateful but when my children were christened nearly everyone bought silver plated "keepsakes"; we could have opened a shop! TBH it was all a bit naff & is gathering dust back in the boxes at the back of a cupboard now.

One present both my children got from the same aunty though that I liked (&used) was little cutlery sets with their names on.
  • Another vote for the little cutlery sets with the babys name engraved or a nice book, my girls had things like Alice in Wonderland and Winnie The Pooh books.
