windows with rac auto windscreens
Has anyone on here used rac auto windowscreens for replacing there windows on car, this is who my insurance said i use,i pay the excess and they pay the rest,if i use someone else they only pay the excess i would pay and i pay the rest.
Well my car is pretty limited in the uk,well less than say 1200 but even so i found it easy to locate a proper window from two places in mins and thats by emailing from other side of world as there at this time, home soon.
Well i have someone back home dealing this for me and they guys came first with a broken window so no good then they come and notice the window on my car was different, after many calls from my folks and hassle this went on for 3 weeks and they said we have a green or blue window for you which one,i asked my dealer what window my car came with as wanted like for like and they gave me an part code etc and said the car only came with one type of window.
So these guys make there windows or had one that was from the same make of car but not the sport version,i was not having it and said i wanted the same window, they said well maybe one would need to be made??I dont know why as i could locate two places that could get one no problem,so i passed this on to them, again this took another week up so in total 4 weeks and still no window, well as i gave them a contact and dealer near me that could get one with right part number etc and they finally ordered it and collected it the other day,not sure if fitted yet, have still to call home see how it went.
But they wanted to be in doors so my folks knew a guy that has a garage and they can do it there, they garage owners knew they trouble i was having and said these guys are cowboys.
They sure sound it to me,i just hope they not messed up my car and did a good job fitting as it sure has not went ok upto now.
Anyone had these guys before and let me know how they got on

i worked at a bodyshop and we often had to have companys come out and fit /remove glass etc
RAC imo were not very good at all
you should be within your rights to request a genuine dealer supplied glass....i did on my vw as i found non genuine ones cracked easily0 -
I just had a crazy situation with RAC auto Windscreens...I called my Insurance (RAC Insurance), told them my windscreen is cracked (fairly major crack), they put me through to RAC Auto Windscreens. Auto Windscreens told me it would be 7 days before they could get the glass and fit it.
So, I contacted my local Autoglass, they have it in stock, and can do it within an hour.
So, I called RAC Autoglass to cancel for late next week, they told me I cant do that.. My insurance (RAC Direct) will only pay out to RAC Auto Windscreens.. no-body else.
So, Now I have a car with a massive unsafe crack (one side to the other), and I have to wait a week for my replacement.
My RAC Insurance policy will not be renewed next year!!!!
And as for having genuine manufacturer windscreen... I have got no chance..it seems!!.0 -

They are cowboys,as you can see by my post they was a joke to deal with, but i won in the end,got the proper window installed,my car is a limited edtion car, well not many of them in uk and i only wanted the same window in and i found two dealers who had,or could get them easy they said they could not,i was in australia while all this was going on,and my folks was dealing with it and had a nightmare,me from other side of world was able to find two places with window they could not and was in uk.
It took many weeks to sort out i think 4 or 5 weeks and most people would not have waited that long, but i made them get a proper window from the dealer and all done now.
I was told i could only use them as thats what my insurance company uses.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
I'd be tempted call your insurer back and ask if they have anyone else on their "approved" list. Most insurers use Autoglass, National Windscreens etc. i.e. more than 1 - very rare to just have 1.Out of Darkness Cometh Light, Out of Sandwell Cometh S***e...0

Or you could go to a local independent who may charge you an amount less than your excess. ie local windscreen company to us charge about £180 for a screen that RAC/Autoglass charge £300 for.matched betting: £879.63
