PPI - Not sure if i had it or not where do i start?

I am just about to take on the task of trying to reclaim back any PPI that was mis-sold to me. I had great susses a couple of years ago with bank Charges but now feel its time to tackle the PPI. I studiedly shredded all the paperwork once I have received my refund so now have again now track of all the charges relating to PPI. I was just wondering if I use the same template letter to requires the full breakdown of all my account or if its slightly different if I want it to show any cover , or PPI related charges?
Also does anyone have or can they recommend a good starting letter for this?
Final question I took a loan out with Beneficial Finance a few years back now , they were owned by HSBC do I write to Beneficial or HSBC

Many thanks in advance

    You could write a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter;

    which costs £10 per lender, this should hopefully show whether you had PPI on loans or credit cards.

    In the first instance I'd write to Beneficial, since they would have sold you the loan.
