Help - where can I get a decent cheap wardrobe?!

Options
I need a slim wardrobe sharp-ish as Argos have let me down. It's pretty difficult to find one less than 750mm as Ikea don't seem to do one that size. I'd like on in pine and I have a friend who will give me a lift with his estate on Saturday morning, but I can't think where I woudl be able to get a basic wooden wardrobe in South East London without shelling out a small fortune? Any ideas gratefully received.

Loads of used furniture shops in SE London, start on the Old Kent Road.

The Arrgos one won't be decent anyway. Try ebay and local pick up and you should find some bargains on pine style furniture

Furnitureoutletstores.co.uk have place in Wickford, Essex and do sell Argos stuff so may be worth a look?

Ebay sometimes has some great finds, and you can search by area so that you can go and pick it up easily. Gumtree can also be good on occasion, there is less stuff on there but still worth a try.

Try a charity shop such as YMCA or British Heart Foundation (their larger stores that sell furniture and electricals). I know that my local BHF shop in Bham always has wonderful old wooden wardrobes - (why do they have them now when I no longer need one!).

Argos wardrobes are made from ticky tacky and not proper wood.

Also try freegle as someone may be getting rid of one. Look in second hand shops too.

In the meantime, you could get one of those tall old fashioned looking coat hooks (long stem with large hooks around the top), I have one and used it to hang clothes on before I had a wardrobe.

Ended up getting a piece of tat from Argos. It'll do the job until I move into a bigger place and then I can actually invest in a piece of solid wood furniture that I know will work, or some quality fitted furniture. I can't see this wardrobe surviving a move to be honest, but hey - holds the stuff off the floor for now!
