    Don't be coy.:D

Say how much and then you can get views as to whether its reasonable or not. He's seen the job. Nobody on here has although (to be fair) there ain't going to be an awful lot different from standard fitting costs. Have you got a pressurised system or a conventional vented system? Which TRV is he proposing?

    Cheers

The plumber is a chap I know outside of his plumbing trade, he said 230, thought it was a bit steep myself, he never mentioned which type it was. Its just the standard oil burning system (dont know much about it myself)

You can pay a fiver for a TRV or you can pay between £ 15 and £ 20.

Lets say 15 quid for each still leaves a wage of 130, surely this wouldnt be a days work for a plumber?

You forget the draining down of the system (although it is possible to do 'em "live"), the subequent refilling, the elimination of airlocks on a vented system and a dose of new inhibiter - also iro £ 15.00. You also forget that you are not paying for his time, you are paying for his knowledge, skills and experience. Even if it was £ 130 labour perhaps you also forget that he won't be trousering anything like that for his own convenience once his business expenses and taxes etc have been deducted.

I think its more than fair actually.

Think yourself lucky you aren't paying Pimlico Plumbers prices. £ 90 per hour!!

It is irrelevant how long it will take him. It is how long it will take you and whether you would accept £130 for doing that job. Don't forget, you will probably have to change the bosses in the radiator for the new valves.

This aint London though. 250 quote to change both sides, including stuff to put in to keep the system clean

The location isn't relevant I agree but we can't comment as you haven't said where but even so its still irrelevant. On the other hand though if not London £ 130 still looks reasonable.

    Which is it then £ 230 or £ 250?

Did you read post 6 at all?

    Cheers
