Laptop administrator problem

Help!

When I first began using my new laptop it was set up with no passwords etc so I was automatically logged on as administrator.

After a couple of weeks I thought it would be a good idea to set up a user name. Now I cannot log on to the administrator account wher all my setting E Mails etc are stored.

Is there a quick fix? Would a system restore help?

Thanks
Filiss

did you set up your username with admin rights? if so you can just go straight into the administrator folder under 'documents and settings\administrator' and copy all your files across to your new profile.

Are you using XP Professional or Home Edition?

If Home then, as advised earlier, start up in safe mode and login as administrator.

If Professional, when you get the login screen to login as you new account name, press Ctrl-ALt-Del and repeat. You will then see the conventional Windows login screen. Ensure Username = Administrator and assuming password is still blank, just press OK. You will then be logged in as administrator.

    Hope that helps.

PS - just realised that you must be using XP Prof, or you wouldn't have been able to login as Admin in the first place.
  • Thanks for the suggestions.

In the end I logged on in safe mode and used the transfer files & settings wizard
