are you reading meter properly?
You ignore digits after the decimal point or in red.
What type of meter have you?
A)
reading 7437.78, ignore .78,
readinh 98738, ignore the red
You missed (c) the ones with dials like a series of clocks, they also have tenths.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi,
I didn't put it in because junko44 said in post 1 'it is a newish looking digital meter'.0 -
Thank for the reply. I was told by British Gas that a meter reading was given in February before we moved in, they did tell me what it was and I'm nearly 100% sure it started with 03.
I'm just really confused by this and don't really know what to do.
But it's your job to take a reading on the day you move in. Otherwise it's impossible to know what you have actually used, and you may end up paying for someone else's consumption. Which, if you paid an estimated bill addressed to someone else, is just what you appear to have done.
What was the time lag between occupying the property and registering for an account (PS: you don't 'change the name' on an account-it's a new account)? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
