6% in 6 months - should I cash in - Santander Cautious

Took out a Santander Cautious Portfolio 6 months ago. It seems to be worth 6% more at the moment which looks pretty good considering the current market. Do you think I should cash it in?

Oops....I meant producing a 6% annual return.0

you mean it's worth 3% more now than it was 6 months ago?0

Yes, sorry to confuse.0

I think you need to think about why you invested in the first place. Six months is a very short time period for an investment like that. I don't have a crystal ball so can't tell you whether this fund will do well in the future, you need to do your own research and see if it fits into your investment strategy and risk profile.
Some questions to think about.
Was the money invested as part of an investment plan or strategy? Has that plan changed?
Did you just see a short term opportunity?
Have you got something you need the money for?
Have you spotted another investment you want to put the money into?0 -
I am not an expert. I was asked to visit my local Santander branch to 'review' my accounts. Did so and ended up with this investment because I was offered a 4.2% 'superISA' if I did so. Have £30K in portfolio but may need money within 2 years. No problem with been sold these products but perhaps as my strategy is short term rather than long term (ie i will need money within 2 years), maybe I should have stuck to cash investments? Have I (haha and here's hoping) been 'fortunate' that it has gone up 3 % so soon?0

If you need the money in two years you cannot guarantee this with the investment so my advice would be to quit whilst you are ahead and put the proceeds in a deposit account.0

I agree with the thoughts of BLB53.0

Much appreciated, that's what I will do I think.0

If you quit, does that do anything to your "super ISA"? e.g. will they take interest off you, put you back onto a measly rate etc?0
-
Hmmm....good point, I need to investigate that.0
