Damage to car on private land but paid to park
Hi, I had my car paintwork deeply scratched whilst parking at a footbal club. It was a one off event held by the local club but I had to pay to park. Which i did, instead of causing local congestion on neighbouring roads.
Returned to find car parking area desolate and great big scratches along side of car.
Dont want to claim on my car insurance for obvious reasons. feel very narked that paid to park and no-one was keeping an eye on cars.
What are the keys points to put in letter to club, including quotes for repair?
Thanks guys

Forget it - you paid to park on their land, and they kept to their side of the agreement. You didn't pay them to watch over your car whilst is was on their land."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

They'll no doubt state that you park at you're own risk. You paid for a parking space nothing more.0

How was it advertised ? secure parking ? or just parking.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

It was a kids football tournament and this club hosted. Huge spaces inbetween cars which would point to it being malicious but seing as no-one around to witness, hard to say. I will be blowed if I am paying £400 to correct something that happened on thir land. NO disclaimer notices. I may add that there were enough staff about when they were taking the money! But dissappeared soon as everyone was in.0

. . . and if the car had been stolen, would you claim off the club or car insurance?
I would imagine the club will have liability insurance for damage caused by their negligence - brick falling off poorly maintained wall they knew about, or branch falling off a tree that had not been pruned. However, I can't imagine they will have insurance for damage caused by 3rd parties, that is why we all insure our own cars. Unless you can prove that the club knew the person who damaged your car was likely to do so and they did nothing to prevent it, then I suspect you'll need to claim on your own insurance - same as if your car was parked anywhere else.0 -
I agree 100% with JQ. If the damage had been caused by the car park itself (poor surface etc) the you may have a case.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Don't say it then and continue to drive round with the damage.0 -

You'd need to claim off the person or persons that damaged it, not the owner of the land on which it was parked.
Did you report the vandalism to the police? If not, why not?
Have you checked with the club if they have CCTV? Perhaps that would give you a lead to the perpetrators of the crime. (although if you had reported it to the police at the time, this would usually be one line of investigation they would have already followed up on)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
