The bill you have just received for 18 months usage of £1336 possibly seems about right for the cost of gas used (depending on your particular circumstances of course).

However have they included on that bill all of the credits, ie the 18 months of DD payments?
  • Hi, yes, the original bill was £2200! So looking at the bill they have taken this into account.:-(

Why not call BG and ask why your bills have been cancelled and rebilled? Once you have this information you will be able to discuss the resolution. Usually the bills would only be cancelled if there was a meter problem.

Jalexa has posted the billing code I see, my reference was to a supplier suddenly dumping aged energy onto a bill be scrapping all previous bills. They can only do that if they can prove you have hindered or concealed information relating to it. However, suppliers do try it on and backbill in breach of the billing code until you point it out to them...and watch them backpeddle!

Since they have included all your payments, you need to check the following next:

    - are the opening readings the same and have they billed up to the same place/reading/matching to your actual meter, etc?

    - have they applied every price change? Sometimes when replaced a large amount of bills, the operator can forget to pro data sections of the bill to ensure each price change is billed correctly.

Its not clear what the issue is yet but check these first. If still nothing shows, raise a complaint demanding an explanation.

Did you have a meter change in this period, say from imperial to metric? Again, has the operator applied the correct multiplier?

I am sure my meter was changed during this period. However, it has always been metric. I have written to BG now so I await a response/acknowledgement. Thanks to all for your comments and assistance. I will try and update you when I can!
  • Hi all,

Just wanted to update you all with some good news! I received a reply from British Gas, basically admitting they made an error, but tough luck, nothing we can do about it. I then sent a further letter to them letting them know how disgusted I was that they have admitted to an error but fail to do anything about it and explain why. I also mentioned I would go to the ombudsman if I wasn't to get a satisfactory resolution. Joy of joys, the next letter I received is a full apology, using some data billing code that someone on here has mentioned before, and credited me with £680! Result! Thanks guys for your help and advice on this occasion, and for encouraging me to get a full explanation from them. The credit was much more than I was expecting, so I am happy.
