Fixing a TV to the wall

We want to fix a 24" TV to a bedroom wall. The wall is plasterboard so we bought a "stud finder" but it doesn't seem to be indicating the edge of any studs.
The construction of the wall has been described by a couple of people as "egg box construction" Anyone know what this means? The house was built in the mid 80s

Essentially its not a typical stud wall. its two sheets of plasterboard with carboard in the middle something along the lines of this
The proper term is a paramount wall.
Not sure about brackets for fixing having a quick look now!
Typical the pic doesnt work!! Its like a hollow door, if that makes any sense?!0 -
You need the fixings that expand inside the wall.0

Looking through a few other forums the general consensus seems to be a no no to hanging on a paramount wall. There are suggestions of either no nails a board to the wall screwing into that (personally think that sounds very risky) Or removing a channel floor to ceiling and installing studs to screw into (alot of mess and effort).
Others have suggested ceiling mounts (tv is going to be high up and bars will be seen) Or you could go fo a tv stand that you mount the tv to.
Cant guarantee hollow wall fixings will be suitable seeing as there are fewer studs to spread the load.
Sorry bit stumped on this one, good luck!0 -
Not looking good is it - looks like all our upstairs dividing walls are of this construction. We don't have a external wall in this room where we could hang it - one wall is virtually all window and the other has fitted wardrobes.0

I use http://www.screwfix.com/c/screws-nails-fixings/hollow-wall-anchors/cat840108 A 24" tv isn't that heavy, and the Rawlplug branded ones are a good option. The setting tool is handy, and expands the bolt without it twisting in the plasterboard, but you can just tighten them down by screwing them up.0

Agree with the above. Also, buy a bracket with numerous holes and use all of them. Screws are cheaper than TVs.0

You should strangle the thought of hanging any form of expensive apparatus on a paramount wall at birth.

I have a 50" pioneer plasma hanging on a paramount wall

There is timber in a paramount wall, its a framework around each board. I attached the centre of the bracket to one to them with screws, then the rest of the bracket with cavity fixings.
