Job seekers (scotland)

Does anyone know how long it takes for jobseekers allowance to be processed if the person resigned from their job?

  • It usually takes about three to four weeks for a new claim to be processed. However, when someone resigns the claim can be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks.

Thank you I thought so. Idiot of a sister thinks she gonna get paid next week and she only applied last week the worst part of it all is a can`t get my head round the fact that she resigned from a job she has been in for 15yrs with no thought for anyone else or the mountain of debt she owes.

Well if she can't show good cause for resigning, she may not get JSA at all for 6 months but I believe there is a smaller hardship sum.

Direct her to the debt free wanabee board if she's overwhelmed with debt problems. The Direct Gov website has a good Debt Management section.

Why did she leave her job?

She may well get some early payments as it takes time to assess her claim.

Once they assess her and find out she resigned, she will be sanctioned for up to 6 months.Any payments she had and not eligible for will be taken for from future payments (so it goes on an on).
