Hello there,
I got an item on a 3 day listing that ends on Thursday evening. It had a starting price and a BIN option. During the night someone from USA chose the BIN option at 05:56:31Then i received the following message "I am very sorry to tell you this but I actually did not order this item. One of my friends was using my computer and did not log out of my account. Very, very, sorry. I would greatly appreciate it if you could retract said bid. Thanks much." This was received at 05:10? .So i was wondering what to do,it seems they dont want the item so do i still have the option of sending a cancellation request?.If they agree to this do i get my fvf back.Im a bit peeved as it means other buyers are missing out as i had a few watchers on it. Also whats up with the time difference between the sale/message.Did they really message me 40 mins before buying? odd
Mnay thanks

The ebay message system is a law unto itself! they don't always send things out in the order you would expect, so its possible they sent the buyers message out before they sent you the sale confirmation email.0

hmm..so i think im best in leaving it 4 days and opening a NPB ?0

Yep NPB.
Nice reply... Sorry i was not at my computer and forgot to log out when my cat filed a NPB dispute against you.
Please accept the dispute so that i can get my fee's back.

Sorry, but if the message is (ahem, genuine) isn't the answer really simple?
Why can't "the friend" who presumably thought they were buying on their own eBay account pay the eBay buyer, the buyer pay the seller and the eBay buyer give the the item to "the friend" when it arrives?

It would be best for you to send the cancelation request and get your fees back that way. The problem you have is if the buyer from USA decides to pay for it after you open a NPB dispute. You then have to send it and hope it gets there, they then decide it hasn't arrived or is not as described, they get a refund and you lose out, and get a neg to boot. best off avoiding the trouble it could bring.0

I agree with Bris - it would also enable you to relist the item quicker.
I save NPBs for no contact. Acknowledging that people make mistakes makes it easier to avoid aggro when unnecessary.
eBay do now seem to have a cancel transaction option listed on the buyer's side of the divide now - but they don't seem to have publicised it very well. Since this exists, I'd now direct people to it rather than sending out a cancellation because it is less cumbersome than a buyer having to request a cancellation.
I'm wary of going through the process in order to find a link - I'm happy with all my purchases and I don't want to needlessly upset any sellers (even if a buyer speculatively goes through the 'where is my item' process the seller gets a message that the buyer has tried it!) - but there's no need to panic any more about this kind of thing that someone will decline a cancellation and so on."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I'm generally happy to cancel a transaction if the buyer messages me quickly, most of the time you get good feedback out it too if you leave them one thanking them for getting in touch0

A non-payment strike will help them remember to keep their ebay account a little more secure

If it is indeed a one-off, then no harm done. But if they have a habit of letting their 5 year old prodigy bid on an item, then, as I found out a few weeks ago, a NPB will make them NARU and prevent them causing more problems for sellers further down the line.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I always wonder how many other sellers have been fed the same line and have let them off with a gambled mutual.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
