Petplan: 20% excess. Axa: £300+ when 10 year old. To buy or not to buy cat insurance?

I know there is a sticky and a dedicated page on pet insurance, but after reading them and searching forums, I still do not know whether I should get insurance for my cat.

It seems that pet plan is the best and they don't seem to increase too much as the cat ages (the amount you can claim goes down considerably though). The thing that puts me off this is the additional 20% excess(approx). And this isn't mentioned in the quote, or on price comparisons. You have to read the terms and conditions. Axa was recommended to someone on one forum as they do not add an excess percentage, but if my cat was 10 years old, the insurance would be over £300 a year.

She is currently 6 years.

It makes me wonder if insurance is worth it. I have had six cats in my life.

Cat 1: At 18 years he had a tumour, which was too close to his spine to operate on

Cat 2: Killed by a fox

Cat 3: Was a rescued stray and eventually ran away

Cat 4: Was shot. He didn't have insurance, so my mum paid to have his leg amputated. (He isn't alive to day though).

Cat 5: Was hit by a car and had to be put down (even if we had insurance)

Cat 6: Was hig by a car and died

Cat 7: 6 years old. She is having stitches at the moment for deep cuts. I wish I had insurance because of this, but after some research and price comparisons, the percentage excesses, or the quadrupling of prices as the cat ages are making me reconsider.

Pet insurance to me seems like a gamble!
