Does housing benefit and council tax benefit get assessed seperatly?

I received a letter today saying that I'm getting income based JSA, when I applied for JSA I ticked the box saying that I wanted to claim housing benefit and council tax benefit as well.

I have only heard about the JSA, sorry if this is a silly question but will I get a separate letter about housing and council entitlement?

Yes you should get a separate letter from your council about HB and CTB. Jobcentre will (should) pass on your details to the council and they get in touch. Might be worth ringing the housing benefit office just to make sure they have got your details, just to put your mind at rest.
About four years ago my husband lost his job, signed on for JSA(C) and we automatically got a letter from the council saying we weren't entitled to HB even though we hadn't actually applied for it!

I would phone the council as they usually get you to fill in a form. If you are a private tenant they will want to see your lease and keep the letter safe saying you are entitled to jsa they will want to see this as well probably. It can take weeks, months sometimes to sort out so be prepared. good luck.
