BT Account Move + ADSL Signup Simultaneously

I currently have a bog standard BT phone line, no ADSL because i'm on an ntl cable modem. My new home (fingers crossed*) is not on ntl's network, and so i'll be looking to get ADSL installed, and I would want this as close as possible to the move in date.
Does anybody have experience of moving a BT account and asking for ADSL to be installed straight away, or would this cause too much chaos and confusion? Or if you have moved whilst already on ADSL and were BT able to move all services in one go? - as one option is to signup to ADSL here before I move just have them transfer the lot.
There is currently an ADSL connection in the new place, and the vendor will be taking his number with him as he is moving locally.
* fingers crossed for the home that is, not that it's not on ntl

I foolishly signed up to tiscali when i moved from a cable network. Never again. It took about 21 days and then when I moved again 6 months later it took about 5 weeks. I can`t wait until contract runs out. I never had any problem at all with ntl and the speed we now have on BT is only 2mb and we had much more with ntl.0

Moved recently, had BT at last house for broadband and phoneline. New house had BT phoneline and a call package and broadband from Talk Talk - previous owner took number with her, we couldn't so needed a new number. Straightfoward to move? Definately not. Took us 2 weeks just to get an active phone line and the broadband only came on last week, a good 4 weeks after the move, with lots and lots of calls to them and after being given 4 or 5 different dates.
If the line is with BT for everything you might be OK, as part of the problem was getting Talk Talk to release the line back to BT so they could activate it. All this despite the fact we were getting a new number with no connection to the previous owner. Nightmare - however you do it expect to be on dial-up for a few weeks. Good Luck.Addicted to Facebook

I took an ntl phone number over to BT. BT managed to do that with no problem on the day we moved.
Ntl then phoned and asked why we were leaving them, as they had only received a "release the number" notification and weren't aware we were moving".
They agreed to install broadband the day after we moved. They missed the first appointment and did the hardware but not the software on the second appointment 3 days later.
At least by day 4 I had broadband from ntl and a BT line all operating successfully.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. got the feeling you cannot order the broadband until your new number is "live" unless they changed things, might take up to 10 daysEx forum ambassador

I think i'll go down the path of least resistance! I'll get my BT account transferred to the new line, then order ADSL.
I'll be too busy unpacking and redecorating to need the Internet anyway!
(unless I can find a friendly neighbour with an open wireless connection)0
