PPI Questionnaire: Difficulty Answering Questions - Help!

Options
Hello all,

I'm new to this, but am currently trying to get PPI back on a number of credit cards. I have written to the providers and asked them to send me copies of my agreements, but they are being quite difficult in not providing all of the details I have requested.

I am now about to undertake the task that is filling in the consumer questionnaire so that I can make my complaint official, but I’ve noticed a question that I'm unable to answer, which I'm thinking will make it difficult to pursue my claim.

The problem is that in the questionnaire, you are asked to provide details of how, where and when you took out each credit card agreement. But because I have had six cards in total over the last few years, I cannot actually remember where and when (and by which process) I took out each agreement. This means that when I fill in the questionnaire, it will make it difficult for me to say that I felt pressured into taking the PPI by the salesman, or the box was pre-checked on the form I filled in, etc.
There is an option to say that you can’t remember, but I figure that this will weaken my claim.

I suppose I could actually ask each credit card company for this information, but I’m thinking it’s pretty unlikely that they’ll tell me!

Any comments on what I should do would be very much appreciated. Has anyone else had this problem?

Many thanks,

Ben

I cannot actually remember where and when (and by which process) I took out each agreement.

That will harm your complaint as it is difficult to complain about the sale of the policy if you cannot remember the sale of the policy.

The company is not required to tell you this information and it wont help your case. it will just verify to them that you cant remember.

Dont lie on the form. If you are caught telling lies then any grey area or balance of probability decision would go against you. You are not expected to have perfect recollection. You just need to have your reasons for complaint (just having PPI is not grounds for complaint).

  • Dunstonh,

Thanks very much for the reply, it was very helpful.

Well, I'm determined to press forward with my case(s), even though i can't remember the details of how, where and when I took out the credit cards.

If I pay the companies £10 for a Subject Access Request/full breakdown of the account, would this include any details regarding how I started the account?

    Thanks once again.

    Not a jot.
Just be as honest as you can in your answers. Highlight the reasons you do know about for your complaint.
Do be aware, though, that you cannot complain simply because you had PPI.
Did you have significant overlap of insurance cover elsewhere?
Did you have any pre-existing medical condition?
    Where you self-employed?
