No V11 and I just realised no V5!

Noticed that my tax disk expires at the end of the month but I've had no V11 reminder. Just checked and realise I dont have a V5 either.

I bought the car 6 months ago and realise I never got sent one - although I do have the New Keeper Supplement.

Looks like the donut who sold me the car never sent off (or it got lost somewhere) the V5 when he sold the car to me, so DVLA dont know I ever owned the car.

Not cool. I see I cant tax the car using the New Keeper Supplement since I've had the car for more than 2 months and that I have to go to DVLA office.

But I'm assuming the car is now not even registered in my name, so how do I prove its mine? Luckily I have the NKS.

Seems a bit of a flawed system if the seller cant be bothered to send the V5 off. Hope I havent had any speeding fines or parking tickets ;-)

He shouldn't need to, it is the responsibility of the seller to inform DVLA.

That's not what the DVLA website says.

log book might have been through 5 hands on trade seller declaration so seller might well have sent the log book off but he wouldnt get a response from dvla
its up to buyer to chase up log book after non arrival after 6 weeks so op will now have to possibly pay £25 v5c fee at local dvla to tax his car
i tell my customers to contact me or dvla after 6 weeks i like to think its a service but to have a car 6 months and not realise i would put down to pure mismanagement on ops watch and probably it did come but the 3rd cleaner just ate it out of spite

Yes, my fault for not realising that I hadn't received a V5. Spoke to DVLA and car is not registered in my name but they didn't seem too bothered.

Since I have the NKS no fee but I do have to go to DVLA office which is hassle.

p.s. Please stay on topic for this thread.

It is the responsibility of the seller to notify the transfer, but on the rear of the V5C/10 it gives a phone number to contact if the new certificate has not been received after six weeks.
  • Like I said I have spoken to DVLA.

Turn up at office with NKS, relevant docs and they will tax and sort out V5 for free.

It would not be valid at the Post Office after two months, but still valid at a DVLA office.
