I approached the CSA in 2002 after my now ex husband refused to continue paying any maintenance a few months after we split up. The most l have ever got was £20 pcm. He then became unemployed c. Aug 2007. Since then l have been getting letters telling me he has beem assessed and doesnt need to pay anything, but l know he has been working full time in a betting shop for tje past couple of years. He has re married but has no other children - that l know of. How the hell is he pulling this off?

All I can think of is same as clearingout. The only other way around it would be to somehow convince them to pay him as a "contractor" as he registered as self employed and only declares the minimum.I'm never offended by debate & opinions. Hmmm. Okay, l will have to try and find out which chain he works for. It just winds me up he is so demanding at times he even gets on DS' nerves, then he doesn't help out at all. Will see what l can find out then approach the CSA. Thanks.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

When my exH was unemployed he still had to pay £5 a week...
*looks puzzled*
wonder why he got a £0 assessment in 2007?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I think you get a £0 assessment if their income is under a really low amount, e.g. if they are self employed and the business makes a loss. Or they do not work, or claim benefits and perhaps have a partner who supports them.I'm never offended by debate & opinions. have you asked the CSA to check his tax records with the HMRC? They can do this although you do seem to have to fight for it. Other than that, you could try for a variation on the grounds of 'lifestyle inconsistent with income'?0

Thank you, l willook into those things. When he first started working again he said the CSA had contacted him so l assumed they had picked up on the tax records, but maybe not. I don't suppose he has a massive income but he has some. He was claiming benefits before in 07.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

It could be a low income issue. If he's working for a major chain, it's unlikely he's being paid cash in hand although I guess not impossible. Let us know how you get on.0

Yes, because it is on the old rules, there are instances when a working NRP would have a nil assessment. Whether this is the case or your ex is fiddling the system somehow though, who knows?August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
