Someone posted here a while ago that when they tried to claim on their policy, the insurance company put forward a different valuation for the car than the third party insurer of the driver who had written the car off.
This meant that they would only pay the difference between what they said the third party insurer should be paying and the invoice price. The third party insurer wouldn't budge so the poster was several hundred adrift from the invoice price despite having the insurance policy.
I suspect they were still better off than if they didn't have the policy at all though but this is something to consider before buying. I can't remember if there were modifications to the car which the third party insurer wouldn't pay for so check the policy carefully as to what it will and won't pay out for before committing yourself.0 -
Hi Niall
When I bough my car last year (3 month old demo) the salesman told me about the return to invoice insurance (term used was GAP). It seemed to make sense to me. The price the salesman quoted was a crazy amount and being of a suspicious kind a guy I declined and then investigated it myself on the net. The results I obtained were well below that of the salesman so clearly he was on commission!!
I searched under GAP insurance and found a company called surfandprotect.
All depends on your attitude to risk whether you'd want this sort of cover.
Hope this helps.
