Vent at Tesco Mobile

I ordered a new SIM only from Tesco Mobile and wanted to carry my existing number across, they said it would be no problem.
I received the SIM card and a text saying that it would take until 4pm yesterday to carry my existing number over.
My old service provider cancelled my SIM early yesterday morning, I waited until 4pm to try my number and it wasn't carried over.
I phoned the helpline and have been told there is a problem and it will take a further 24 hours for my number to carry across from the time that I phoned them to tell them there was a problem.
I am going to be without my number for another day
I'm going to cancel the new contract as soon as my number is ported across and I can get the PAC code, it's a pity as the SIM was the cheapest I could find for an iPhone 4 but if Tesco Mobile can't even do that right for a new customer I don't want to be in a contract with them for a year.

Maybe that's the price you pay for the cheapest sim? Sorry, I know that's not very helpful, but I can't help thinking that if you are going to save a lot of money in the long term, it might be okay to wait one more day for the phone?
Am new here so if that's not the MoneySaving way to think let me know!0 -
In fairness, you don't know if the issue was at Tesco end or with your old service provider. Moving numbers across networks is normally a straight-forward activity, but as with all things in life sometimes things go wrong.0

Could you have forwarded calls from you old number to your temporary new one? Maybe Tesco would have been prepared to cover these costs for you. By all means cancel your contract but it seems as though you'd be cutting off your nose to spite your face if Tesco are offering the best deal.0
