Replacing doors on a Moores Kitchen

Hello All!

We after a bit of help and advice. We bought our new build house in 2003 and the kitchen was already fitted - not exactly to our taste but not too bad!

It is now starting to look quite tatty - the doors are wrapped and starting to peel etc. I was thinking we could just replace the doors for a bit of a facelift. The problem is all the doors/units seem to be non-standard sizes compared to replacements. Is this right or have I measured wrong??

Is it possible to replace them with other doors or would it be cheaper to just replace the whole kitchen?? Was thinking about IKEA or the Wickes Tenby takeaway range?

Aargh! Too many options:o

If you're happy with the layout - then replacing the doors makes sense. Moores sizes are slightly different - yes - so, you have two options.

Go back to a Moores stockist to buy new doors (you can find one from their website) ...

... or find a supplier of made to measure replacement doors. Most of the specialist replacement door companies will do made to measure - and so will some independent kitchen showrooms (although not all will do replacement doors).

Once you've got a couple of quotes for replacing the doors, I'd then compare that with the cost of a new IKEA kitchen (with perhaps a changed layout). Personally, I wouldn't touch Wickes Takeaway range with a bargepole!

    Hi Mrs_Monkey

The doors from Moors contract kitchens for new builds will be the same quality of the ikea and wickes takeaway.
Chances are the same will happen after a given time.
As there contract kitcehns the chances are they are standard doors.
    what sizes have you measured?

Just because they're contract kitchens, doesn't mean that all their doors are the same quality. Moores do a solid oak shaker style door, as well as lacquered (painted) doors and high gloss laminates (which will all be tougher than vinyl wrapped).

Moores Four Seasons range has 157mm high top drawers and 555mm doors (or two x 276h drawers) underneath, for a drawer-line unit (compared with 140 and 570 for other standard ranges) and an overall standard height of 2173 (compared to 2120).

Moores and IKEA will be similar quality - similar to Wickes main kitchen range - the Takeaway range is nowhere near as good (both in quality and choice of unit sizes).

I wasnt meaning the 4 seasons retaiil section - house builders wouldnt use these most the time when developing.
The over lacquered doors are pvc edged then over lacquered, TKC and Mereway do them

They do Four Seasons Contract - as well as retail - and I suspect they use the same sizes for all their ranges.

The high gloss laminates are pvc edged and over lacquered (lots of companies do them) - but they also do straight painted lacquered doors. And both would be tougher than vinyl wrapped.

Sorry Mrs_Monkey_Boy ... these kitchen questions often seem to turn into an argument amongst the kitchen designers ... but I like the facts to be right!

Majjie - not sure why you feel other peoples opinions as an 'argument'?

Im giving advice based on what i know from the door samples i have received, seen and touched from these companies

I've absolutely no wish to argue with you Evokit - you're entitled to your opinions. I just want to get the facts straight.
