Is this a scam?

I was phoned today by 08451547956 I missed their name.
They were offing a service to get money back from my Mastercard supplier because I had not been asked to sign and return a form when my credit limit had been altered or the terms and conditions had changed. They said that I could be due £1000 per card - also - if I signed up they would look into the rest of bank loans , PPI etc back 20 years to see if I was due anything else.
I said I didn't have a Master card (I do but didn't want him to know) he said that I did because they were accredited and had this information. I came clean that I do have one.
There was a fee upfront of £67 or £76 but this would eventually be paid for by the credit card company. They only charged £20 in £1000 for their service.
I said that I wouldn't do this over the phone and as I was busy could he e-mail me their contact details? - he was offering to tell me them so that I could write them down. The conversation was about to finish when I realised that he hadn't asked for my e-mail address. I said this - he replied just a minute we are accredited with credit agencies we have your e-mail address and proceeded to tell me it.
A day later no e-mail. Surely this is a scam?
Its a bit disturbing if they are a scam that they know I have a Mastercard and that they know my e-mail address.........

They are apparently ......
DWS Claims | Riverside Court | Beaufort Park | Chepstow | NP16 5UH
Disturbing that they knew we have 2 Mastercards (forgot that in first post) and my e-mail address..........0 -
its unlikely they would achieve what they promise but they will have obtained your payment so they are in profit as opposed to you. They may have obtained your email address in all sorts of ways depending on how frequently you key it into on line enquiry schemes and the mastercard information may simply be an intelligent guess on the basis that some they win some they lose.
In schemes like this I listen to the introduction and then politely and firmly tell them I never pay in advance for unsolicited services but if they care to forward to me their proposal and terms and conditions of service I will give it my consideration and if it is of interest I will contact them, and then get on with my life!John0 -
I knew it was a scam really.
Just wondering if there is a grain of truth in the assertion that you have to be asked to acknowledge changes to T&Cs or credit limit moves?0 -

Since PPI claims will eventually dry up, the claims management industry which it spawned will be looking for the next target.
This sounds like a variation of the alleged claims a year or so ago where people were trying to get out of paying their credit card bills by asking companies for original credit agreement then claiming it was not enforceable if they could not provide it. This seemed to just disappear.
Basically if anyone ever calls unsolicited just get rid of them or follow irishjohn's advice above.0 -
Just tell them you've got to answer the door and ask them to wait for a minute; then put the phone quietly down and carry on with your day.
At least while they're waiting for you to get back, they can't be scamming someone else!We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
