Internet but no e-mail .....help!!!

Can anyone help?
I have my usual braodband connection as usual and can log on no problem. However, since yesterday lunchtime I have not been able to receive e-mails using Outlook 2002. I have checked all settings, deleted them and entered them again, restored my computer back to 3 different dates when I knew the e-mail worked. Trawled the internet for an explanation and in desperation rang Tiscali technical support on an 0870!!!! (my ISP). They were next than useless, went through everything I had already done and then said they didn't offer support for Outlook 2002 only webmail and I should ring PC World who I bought the computer from 3 weeks ago. I have restarted till I am sick of it and even pulled the plug out to discharge all electricity and left it off for an hour. Still the same!!. Please help someone. i do know my way around computers but this has me puzzled.
One last thing if I do a manual send and receive it goes through the process fine, makes all the right noises and everything, just does not bring in any mails (which I know I have because I have been to 3 different friends today and got them to send me a message....none of which have come through) but I do not get any form of error message. I can even send mail out. Help!!!!

  • What happens in your "Internet email settings" screen when you test your settings? Does outlook tell you that everything is ok?
Have you entered the correct incoming/outgoing email server addresses? Selected teh correct mail format? pop3/smtp?

When you use your tiscali webmail services, are the 3 incoming emails there?

If present in the webmail, but not in outlook and everythign is correct, I would suggest that there is a problem with your ISP pop3 account and with a little more patience, your mail will eventually come through.

This often happens to my wife's talktalk email account - it can be days sometimes before she is able to download her emails.

Hope that this has been some help

Check your emails via webmail and delete any bad ones or spam etc. Any there any messages with large attachments?

Disable incoming and outgoing email scanning if you have that.

Enable Outlook logging, do a send/receive and look for errors or warnings in the log file - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011742661033.aspx

Have logged onto webmail....and none of the messages are there. If I can explain... we started as screaming.net via Tempo stores....they in turn were taken over by Worldonline....who were taken over by Tiscali. I still have a screaming.net e-mail address so am classed as an inhereted account. All of the e-mails I am expecting are coming to a screaming.net account not tiscali.co.uk. I have checked with one of my friens and she has received from my screaming.net account but I have not received her e-mail. What do you think it is?

Check with Tiscali, since you're email account is from an old ISP, they could have moved your address on to a new domain, although hopefully it's just a temporary problem. You might also want to consider getting a Gmail account so your mail is independent from your ISP, and perhaps using a different mail client such as Thunderbird.

Send yourself an email and then log into webmail. Is it there?

Set up a Tiscali mail account. In your old webmail set it to transfer to the new one. Send to yourself again and see if it gets redirected using webmail.

Thanks for all the advice. Managed to get it working now with the help of a computer boff friend. I just had to ping the pop3 mail server....and hey presto all the e-mails started coming through. He thinks my computer just lost the link to the server somehow. So all's well that ends well.
    Thanks guys
